If you missed the Woz's keynote, then allow me to explain. The Woz was telling us about his younger years when he was a phone phreak stealing phone service from Ma Bell. He told of a device used to emit tones used to seize control of phone switches and allow Godlike use of the phone system. What he was refering to is called a blue box. (Not the thing that allows the old Mac OS to run on Rhapsody.) Once, when he was approached by a cop, he told the cop that this device was a “music box”. He said the button used to seize control of a trunk was to “calibrate” it. This is a blue box writen in JavaScript for use in Netscape. This thing emits the true tones that a real blue box would. Unfortunately for those of you that are salivating right now from reading this, blue boxes don't work on these days' phone switches. (They worked on old systems called Crossbar, today just about everthing is ESS. You can still find Crossbars in 3rd world countries.)
To run this, drag “index.html” on top of Netscape 3.01. (You have to have the LiveAudio plug-in installed. It comes with Netscape 3.0 and 3.01 so you already have it unless you specifically took it out.)
